Q:I have long curly hair which is always breaking. I use a round brush for blow-drying, a paddle brush for dry tangles, and a wide toothed comb for wet tangles. Am I using the right tools?

A: If you're using the wrong tools, your hair will probably look dull. For all hair, a wide toothed comb works for wet tangles. For finer hair, use a vent brush with large holes in the top so air is able to move through and lift the roots. For longer hair, use a paddle brush for smoothing. For curly hair, use a round brush with natural bristles. The longer your hair is, the larger your brush's diameter should be. Whenever you can, let your hair dry naturally and then smooth it out with a blow dryer or flat iron. This method is less damaging. If you're still in doubt, have your stylist watch you style your own hair so he or she can give you personalized tips.
